Investigations
This part of my digital portfolio will highlight some of the activities and investigations that we do in our math/physics class.
Marshmallow Challenge
On the very first day of school we were set into groups for the marshmallow challenge. We used uncooked spaghetti, tape and string to make the marshmallow on top as high as we could. My group did not win, but we had lots of fun working and getting to know each other.
"Lights Out" Challenge
For this challenge we had to create a working 'flashlight' using gum, tinfoil, batteries, rubber band, paper clips, pennies, a paper bag, a spiral bound notebook and a light bulb. We had a given amount of time with the lights on, then our teacher turned them off and we had to work in semi darkness. Once we got out 'flashlight' to work we went into a completly dark room to see how bright it was.
Conductors and Insulators
We were given a light bulb and a battery first. The our teacher came around with a paper bag full of items, we were allowed to reach in and take three things and determine whether they were conductors or insulators buy connecting them with the light and battery. Some of the objects were, pennies, pencils, a plasitc pig, styrofoam, etc.
