High Tech Hole in OneProject Description:
The High Tech Hole in One project was tenth grade wide. It included all of the subjects we learned this year; Math, Humanities, Chemistry, and World History. There were 18 total courses made and one snack shack at the end. Each group had either a court case or an event in history depending on what team you're on. Building Process:
There were groups of 5 to 6 people working together to build our golf course. In order to build our course, we had to consider a few thing; size, space, and supplies. Most of our building time was spent during last period, our usual math class. The only problem with that was we got mostly scraps(or in a few cases nothing) to build our golf courses, which set many of us back a few days. Our courses had a wood base, turf, trim and black felt to make the edges neat. All of the materials were provided with the school budget, so we had to conserve as much as possible. To actually put all the courses together took about a week of constant work. Finally it was ready for our obstacles. |
Obstacles:
Just like all mini golf there are obstacles to keep if from being too easy.Every group member had to create an obstacle the had to do with the event of our course. Since our team was focused on events rather than court cases we had to choose an event or time in history for our course. My group decided on doing the Industrial Revolution. Everyone had their own struggle building or deciding what their obstacle was going to be, so we all brainstormed and helped each other out. Our course was one of the hardest in the entire 10th grade class, nobody could get a hole-in-one. The following are our obstacles and what they represent
*IN ORDER OF APPEARANCE ON THE COURSE*
Obstacle 1: The telephone
This obstacle represents the telephone. The pattern of the blocks is symbolic of sound waves traveling between telephones.
Obstacle 2: The steam powered locomotive
This obstacle symbolizes the European and American railroads. One of them is false, simulating how the americans railroads were weaker and could not withstand the weight of the locomotive.
Obstacle 3:The punchcard
This obstacle is supposed to represent the Analytical Engine. The punch card was used to operate and command data.
Obstacle 4: The radio
This obstacles represents the speed and travel of news before and after the radio's invention. The shallow upslope represents the slow speed of information traveling, the steep downslope represents how much faster news spread after it's invention.
Obstacle 5: The Maxim Gun
This obstacle is representative of the Maxim gun, created by an American in Europe. It was used against the Africans and completely decimated them when put into comparison with their outdated weapons.
Obstacle 6: The airplane
This obstacle represents the struggle that the Wright Brothers withstood when trying to create the first airplane. It was hard at first with very little knowledge, but as they learned more it became easier to build.
